Cocoa

Cocoa procurement starts with product form, origin and quality. Beans, liquor, butter and powder are different products; country totals and futures references do not by themselves establish a lot-specific physical price.

Latest reviewed evidence

ICCO has temporarily withheld current-season 2025/26 production and grindings totals. Atlas therefore shows the latest disclosed 2024/25 balance as dated evidence and does not invent a current-season total.

Current evidence boundary

The August 2026 ICCO bulletin reflects information available in early August but withholds 2025/26 production and grindings. The latest disclosed global balance is therefore the 2024/25 estimate. Atlas keeps the evidence date, market year and withheld fields visible.

Product and quality boundaries

Cocoa beans are not interchangeable with cocoa liquor, butter or powder. A comparable bean lot needs origin, crop period, bean count or size, moisture, fermentation, defects, smoke or contamination limits, certification where relevant, quantity, Incoterm, destination and delivery window.

Origin concentration and sourcing risk

West African production concentration makes weather, disease, farmgate policy, traceability and port execution material to procurement. Atlas separates those operating signals from exchange prices and from any lot-specific physical estimate.

Questions procurement teams ask

Has ICCO published a complete 2025/26 cocoa balance?

No. In its August 2026 release, ICCO said current-season production and grindings data were temporarily withheld.

What is the latest disclosed ICCO world cocoa production estimate?

The reviewed August 2026 release gives 4.733 million metric tons for 2024/25. That is a dated estimate, not a live lot price.

Is a cocoa futures value a physical cocoa price?

No. Futures are reference-market anchors. A physical price additionally requires a defined product, quality, origin, destination, Incoterm, delivery window, currency and information vintage.

Which details make a cocoa-bean offer comparable?

Origin, crop period, grade and defects, moisture, fermentation, certification where applicable, quantity, Incoterm, destination and delivery window.
