Cotton Seed

Cottonseed is not one interchangeable product. A comparable lot must distinguish whole fuzzy or delinted seed, planting seed, and seed intended for feed or crushing, then identify cotton type, crop year, treatment, moisture and condition, foreign material, mycotoxin and gossypol evidence where applicable, quantity, origin and delivery terms.

The figures below are USDA NASS final U.S. 2025 cottonseed production and farm-disposition estimates published on May 12, 2026. They are dated national statistics, not current global supply, a lot analysis, an offer or a live physical price. Physical value is withheld without current lot, location, quality, rights-cleared market and logistics evidence.

Whole seed, planting seed and crush products stay separate

USDA's disposition table separates seed sold to oil mills from other uses and identifies planting seed within the other category. Cottonseed oil, meal, hulls and linters are products of processing and must not be merged with whole seed. The intended use, treatment status and applicable food, feed or phytosanitary controls belong in the product identity.

Fuzzy and delinted whole cottonseed are distinct forms

USDA Market News describes whole cottonseed with lint attached as fuzzy seed and seed with lint removed as delinted seed. Form affects appearance, handling, bulk density and the relevant analysis basis. Atlas records lint status, cleaning or delinting method, treatment, crop year, cotton type and lot identity before comparing offers.

Inspection scope must follow the lot and destination

USDA FGIS maintains cottonseed export-lot inspection procedures and recognizes whole cottonseed as a separate graded-commodity class. A trade record should carry sampler and laboratory identity, sample date, moisture and condition, foreign material, damaged or heated seed, mycotoxin method and result, gossypol basis where relevant, treatment declarations and the importing market's current requirements.

Dated disposition is not a physical price

USDA's final 2025 U.S. production and disposition totals describe where a national crop moved; they do not establish current availability or value at a named origin and destination. A physical comparison needs form and use, lot analysis, quantity, currency, Incoterm, load point, destination, delivery window, freight and evidence vintage.

Questions procurement teams ask

Are whole cottonseed and cottonseed meal the same product?

No. Whole cottonseed is the seed after ginning; cottonseed meal is a processed product remaining after crushing and oil extraction. Oil, meal, hulls and linters require separate records.

What is the difference between fuzzy and delinted cottonseed?

Fuzzy whole cottonseed retains lint on the seed surface, while delinted seed has that lint removed. The form and treatment method should be stated on the lot.

How much cottonseed did the United States produce in 2025?

USDA's final estimate published May 12, 2026 was 4.132 million short tons. That is a dated national crop statistic, not current global supply or a physical quote.

Which fields make cottonseed offers comparable?

Whole fuzzy or delinted form, planting, feed or crush use, cotton type and crop year, treatment, moisture and condition, foreign material, damaged seed, mycotoxin and gossypol evidence where applicable, quantity, origin, currency, Incoterm, destination, delivery window and evidence date.
