Palm Oil

Palm oil, palm kernel oil, palm olein and palm stearin are distinct trade products. Atlas keeps mesocarp oil separate from kernel oil and records the fraction, quality basis, origin, certification evidence, Incoterm and delivery window before comparing offers.

Product form comes before price

Codex defines palm oil as oil from the fleshy mesocarp of oil-palm fruit, while palm kernel oil comes from the kernel. Fractionation creates palm olein and palm stearin with different physical characteristics. A quoted price without product form can therefore compare unlike goods.

Composition and quality boundaries

The Codex standard provides product definitions, composition ranges, slip-point limits and analysis methods. A commercial record should also preserve free fatty acid, moisture and impurities, colour, refining state, packing or bulk basis, and the laboratory or certificate evidence used for acceptance.

Origin, custody and delivery evidence

Comparable palm-oil offers identify origin, mill or refinery where available, sustainability or chain-of-custody claim and supporting certificate, quantity, currency, Incoterm, load port or destination, delivery window and information vintage. Atlas does not infer certification or delivered cost from a generic benchmark.

Questions procurement teams ask

Are palm oil and palm kernel oil interchangeable?

No. Palm oil comes from the fruit mesocarp; palm kernel oil comes from the kernel and has different composition and uses.

What are palm olein and palm stearin?

They are liquid and higher-melting fractions produced by fractionating palm oil. The named fraction must stay attached to every specification and price.

Does a sustainability label prove a shipment is certified?

No. The claim needs scheme, certificate or transaction evidence, scope, custody model, validity period and the parties covered.

Which fields make palm-oil offers comparable?

Product form and fraction, refining state, quality limits, origin, certification evidence, quantity, currency, Incoterm, port or destination, delivery window and evidence date.
