Palm Oil (CPO)

Crude palm oil trade begins with oil-palm mesocarp identity and an explicit crude state—not a generic palm-product label. Codex defines palm oil as oil derived from the fleshy mesocarp of Elaeis guineensis fruit, while palm kernel oil comes from the kernel and palm olein, stearin and superolein are distinct fractionated products. A comparable CPO offer identifies species and source, crude versus refined or fractionated state, mill and origin, crop and production period, free fatty acids and moisture-and-impurities basis, deterioration-of-bleachability index where contracted, fatty-acid composition and authenticity method, extraction and storage history, sustainability or chain-of-custody claim with its evidence, tank and previous-cargo history, lot and quantity, currency, Incoterm, destination, laycan or delivery window and information vintage. Malaysian Palm Oil Board statistics provide dated national production, yield, stock and export context; they do not certify a lot, establish current availability or supply a live delivered CPO price.

The figures below are the Malaysian Palm Oil Board's official 2025 industry results, published in its 2026 overview, together with the current 2026 Codex Standard for Named Vegetable Oils. They are dated national-sector context and product-identity evidence—not a current lot, certification or live delivered price.

CPO, palm kernel oil and fractionated palm products are separate

Codex identifies palm oil as oil from the fleshy mesocarp of Elaeis guineensis fruit and palm kernel oil as oil from the kernel. Palm olein is the liquid fraction of palm oil, palm stearin the high-melting fraction and palm superolein a separately controlled liquid fraction. A CPO record therefore does not inherit the composition, processing state, yield basis or price of refined palm oil, olein, stearin, palm kernel oil or biodiesel. Atlas retains source tissue, processing and fraction identity before comparing evidence.

A crude designation still needs analytical and handling evidence

The current Codex standard provides product identity, fatty-acid composition ranges, quality factors, contaminant controls, labelling and recognised analysis-and-sampling methods. Commercial CPO comparison also depends on the contracted free-fatty-acid, moisture-and-impurities and deterioration-of-bleachability bases, sample and method, mill and tank, production and loading dates, storage temperature, previous cargoes and traceability. Sustainability or chain-of-custody status remains a separate evidence-backed claim; it is never inferred from origin alone.

Malaysia's 2025 record production stays dated and national

MPOB reported 20.283475 million tonnes of Malaysian CPO production in 2025, 4.9 percent above 2024, alongside 5.70005 million hectares planted, fresh-fruit-bunch estate yield of 17.77 tonnes per hectare and a 19.74 percent national oil-extraction rate. It also reported 15.272823 million tonnes of palm oil exports and 3.051147 million tonnes of total closing stocks. These national aggregates mix mills, months, qualities, storage states and contracts and do not state a particular seller's inventory or lot quality.

An industry statistic or annual average is not a delivered CPO price

A delivered CPO estimate still needs a defined crude product, current permitted physical observations, origin and mill, production and loading dates, chemistry and quality results, sustainability and traceability evidence where claimed, tank and previous-cargo history, lot quantity, currency, Incoterm, destination, delivery window, freight and information vintage. Atlas withholds a physical estimate when those observations or usage rights are missing.

Questions procurement teams ask

Is crude palm oil the same product as palm kernel oil?

No. Palm oil comes from the fruit's fleshy mesocarp; palm kernel oil comes from the kernel. They have different product identities, compositions, processing chains and contract evidence.

Are CPO, palm olein and palm stearin interchangeable?

No. CPO is the crude mesocarp oil, while olein and stearin are liquid and high-melting fractions produced by fractionation. The precise processing and fraction state must remain explicit.

What does Malaysia's 20.283475-million-ton figure represent?

It is MPOB's official total Malaysian crude palm oil production for calendar year 2025, published in the 2026 industry overview. It is not current available inventory, a certified lot or a live price.

Which fields make physical CPO offers comparable?

Species and mesocarp identity, crude state, mill and origin, crop and production date, free fatty acids, moisture and impurities, deterioration-of-bleachability basis where contracted, composition and authenticity tests, extraction and storage history, sustainability and chain-of-custody evidence where claimed, tank and previous cargo, lot, quantity, currency, Incoterm, destination, delivery window and evidence date.
