Soybeans

Soybeans are traded as beans and transformed through crushing into meal and oil. Atlas keeps those products and their units separate, because a bean balance, a meal price and an oil contract are not interchangeable market facts.

How to read the soybean balance

The USDA FAS oilseeds circular and PSD framework distinguish production, domestic crush, exports and ending stocks. Atlas preserves those fields independently. The 2026/27 balance is a forecast vintage, so it should be compared with later revisions rather than treated as a settled outcome.

Product and unit boundaries

Whole soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil have different HS codes, specifications, price references and end users. CBOT soybean futures are quoted in cents per bushel; physical beans are commonly quoted per metric ton with an origin, grade, Incoterm and delivery window. Atlas does not convert one into a delivered physical price without the required basis and logistics evidence.

What procurement teams should verify

A usable soybean comparison names origin, crop year, GMO or identity-preserved status, moisture, foreign material, damage limits, oil or protein requirements, quantity, Incoterm, destination and delivery window. Missing fields remain visible instead of being inferred.

Questions procurement teams ask

Are soybeans, soybean meal and soybean oil the same market?

No. Beans are the oilseed input; crushing produces meal and oil. Each product has separate specifications, HS classifications, balances and price references.

What does the USDA 2026/27 soybean figure represent?

It is a market-year forecast vintage. The reviewed USDA FAS balance reports 442.25 million metric tons of world soybean production for 2026/27.

Is a CBOT soybean futures value a physical delivered price?

No. It is a reference-market anchor. A physical delivered estimate additionally needs grade, origin, destination, Incoterm, delivery window, currency, basis and logistics evidence.

Which details make a soybean offer comparable?

At minimum: origin, crop year, grade and quality limits, GMO or identity-preserved status, quantity, Incoterm, destination, delivery window and currency.
